| The twenty-first century, marked the emergence of the digital image as a major independent art medium. Like any art medim, photography is a sythesis of laws of nature through the prism of scientific methods and philosophical conceptions. As such it can be seen as an intersection of time, light and truth. The photographic image interrupts or speeds up time, light is captured and interpreted, the truth stands alone or is concealed by its physical manifestation. This medium is not a tabula rasa but rather a tabula erased to enable it to speak. During the first century of the history of photography, artists who embarked on this quest laid the foundations of this paradigm, and their name will no doubt associated with the picture of so-called art, even if they have lived at a time when the film was in turn a documentation tool, news media, propaganda and falsification or as object of individual consumption. Finally the field of artistic exploration opened up, finally freed from aesthetic and functional constraints. In the coming year, at RTR Russian Tearoom Gallery , you will discover artists, whose exploration have been enabled by intellectual and creative advancements as much as new technologies. Each exhibition in this annual cycle will be an occasion to explore, showcase and illustrate ideas, insights, conceptions and beliefs around the treasury of Time, Light and Truth and to examine their meanings. The Gallery delivers two complementary spaces: - first designed to enable both the optimal the presentation and understanding of works of art through a formal white cube exhibition space; and - an informal and intimate space where guests, artists, producers, collectors and other participants in spectrum of the photography industry can meet, engage in discourse as well as share and develop their thought, ideas and visions for and about the medium. We are convinced that the Golden Age of Photography is NOW. It is the aim of RTR RUSSIANTEAROOM Gallery to be a key actor in this new era for the medium.
